David M. Smith a former Naval Officer and current high level employee of Delta Airlines found out in 1998 that he was a victim of criminal ID theft when a felon with many outstanding warrants used David's good name to commit crimes. David was arrested and treated like a criminal and spent hundreds of hours trying to clear his name. He thought all was finally over untuil December 2006 when he was again arrested for crimes his impostor committed. Listen to this outrageous story of this hero who refuses to be defteated.

Professor Gene Tsudik is the Associate Dean of Research and Graduate Studies at the University of California , Irvine in the Department of Computer Science. He was chosen as a Fullbright Scholar to teach and do research in Rome in the Spring of 2007 concerning computer privacy issues.

Marc-Aurele Racicot is a member of the Quebec Bar and is presently a staff lawyer with the Office of the Information Commissioner of Canada. He is a member of the Canadian Association of Professional Access and Privacy Administrators (CAPAPA) and of the Association sur l'acces a l'information et la protection de l'information (AAPI). He is currently a graduate student in the LLM Program at the Law Faculty, University of Alberta. His research centres on the open courts principle and access to information and protection of privacy.
Mr. Racicot is co-author of the works Federal Access to Information and Privacy Legislation Annotated and Protection of Privacy in the Canadian Private Sector published by Thomson-Carswell. In 2003, Mr. Racicot began his work with the Faculty of Extension - University of Alberta Information Access and Protection of Privacy (IAPP) Certificate Program when he wrote two modules for the course Access in a Liberal Democracy. As part of a secondment, Mr. Racicot is entering his third year as Assistant Adjunct Professor and Manager of the IAPP Certificate Program. All IAPP Certificate Program courses are now offered in French and English.

Alisa McDermott is a Colorado resident, Insurance Broker, and mother of 4 children, with 2 living still at home. She is President of the local Business Association, and a member of many local clubs and organizations. She has been a positive contributing member of her community.
In the year 2000 she found out she was the victim of identity theft and what this would mean for her and her family. Her nightmare has lasted for six years - she is still trying to clear her name and credit from the horrible scene of Identity Theft.

Dr. Lawrence A. Ponemon is the Chairman and Founder of the Ponemon Institute, a research think tank dedicated to advancing privacy and data protection practices. Dr. Ponemon is considered a pioneer in privacy risk management and the development of the Responsible Information Management or RIM framework.
Ponemon Institute conducts independent research, educates leaders from the private and public sectors and verifies the privacy and data protection practices of organizations in a various industries. In addition to Institute activities, Dr. Ponemon is an adjunct professor for information ethics and privacy at Carnegie Mellon University's CIO Institute and is faculty of CyLab. He serves on the Unisys Corporation?s Security Leadership Institute Board and the IBM Privacy Management Council.
Dr. Ponemon is a member of the National Board of Advisors of the Eller College of Business and Public Administration, University of Arizona. He serves on the Government Policy Advisory Committee and Co-Chair of the Internet Task Force for the Council of American Survey and Research Organizations (CASRO).

Dave is the past president of the Southern California Tourism Safety & Security Association, a non-profit collaboration of law enforcement, security professionals, attraction operators, travel professionals, tourism industry representatives and others dedicated to the exchange of tourist crime and safety information, education, and professional networking.
Dave is an 18-year veteran of Southern California law enforcement, and currently works on community and tourist oriented policing projects. He has authored articles, and been interviewed for a variety of magazines and newspapers, regarding tourism security trends. Dave was honored by the Orange County Tourism Council with their Chairman's Award, the first time the Council has recognized a member of law enforcement. Dave received the 2005 Special Recognition Award from his agency, as well as a U.S. Congressional certificate of commendation for his initiatives in promoting improved visitor security.

Tammie Carroll, a Colorado resident, is a recovering drug addict and the mother of 4 children. Three of the children are living with her and the fourth was adopted out due to her drug addiction and the crimes she committed. She has been clean from drugs and crime since Jan 8, 2003.
She became addicted to methamphetamine after an abusive relationship. The drug addictions led her to places and do things that she never thought she would go or do. She started stealing from others to provide for her children and to support her drug habit. She became involved with cashing counterfeit checks and stealing mail. She would create new check using the routing number and account number of checks she had stole in the mail. After she figured out just how easy it was that was to steal identities and money the identity theft became an addiction all in itself. Tammie was indicted by a grand jury with a group of people on many different charges and sentenced to Peer 1 where her life was saved. Tammie is currently still serving her sentence and paying back the money.

Christine Varney rejoined Hogan & Hartson in 1997, after five years in government service, to head the firm's Internet practice group. This practice provides full service assistance to companies doing business globally, including providing advice on antitrust, privacy, business planning and corporate governance, intellectual property, and general liability issues. Christine also provides antitrust, competition policy, and regulatory advice to a variety of companies. Her clients have included such companies as eBay, DoubleClick, Washingtonpost.Newsweek Interactive, Dow Jones & Company, AOL, Synopsys, Compaq Computer, Gateway, Netscape, The Liberty Alliance, and Real Networks.
Prior to becoming a federal trade commissioner, Christine was an assistant to the president and secretary to the Cabinet. She was the primary point of contact for the 20-member Cabinet. She was responsible for the overall coordination of several major issues and initiatives between the White House and various agencies.
Before joining the Clinton Administration, Christine practiced law with Hogan & Hartson. In addition, she served as chief counsel to the Clinton/Gore Campaign, general counsel to the 1992 Presidential Inaugural Committee, and general counsel to the Democratic National Committee from 1989 to 1992.
