Janet Chapman, chief privacy officer for The Charles Schwab Corporation, serves as the primary privacy contact for the company. In this role, she oversees the creation of privacy strategy, policies and standards, and ensures that they are understood and maintained. She also coordinates the execution of privacy legislative and regulatory changes across the company and acts as liaison to various industry councils and professional groups, including the Privacy Committee of the Securities Industry Association (SIA) and International Association of Privacy Professionals (IAPP). Chapman is also Member of the Advisory Board of the Ponemon Institute's Responsible Information Management Council. She is a frequent speaker on privacy issues.

When interior designer Carole Meltzer lived and worked in Hong Kong her life changed. Dr. Colin Bennett's research interests have focused on the comparative analysis of information privacy protection policies at the domestic and international levels. He has published Regulating Privacy: Data Protection and Public Policy in Europe and the United States (Cornell University Press, 1992). He is also co-editor or Visions of Privacy: Policy Choices for the Digital Age (University of Toronto Press, 1999), and co-author of The Governance of Privacy: Policy Instruments in Global Perspective (Ashgate Press, 2003). He has published articles in: Public Administration, International Review of Administrative Sciences, Policy Options, The Journal of Public Policy, Governance, Science, Technology and Human Values, Canadian Public Administration, the Information Society and the European Journal of Political Research, as well as in specialized journals such as Privacy Laws and Business. He has given addresses and papers on these subjects in Canada, the United States, Britain, Germany, the Netherlands, Italy, Australia and New Zealand. He is an occasional contributor of articles on privacy to The Ottawa Citizen, The Vancouver Sun and the Victoria Times-Colonist.

Joanne McNabb is Chief of the California Office of Privacy Protection. Created by legislation in 2001, the first-in-the-nation Office is a resource and advocate on identity theft and other privacy issues. In addition to providing information and education for consumers, the Office also publishes privacy practice recommendations for business and other organizations.
McNabb is co-chair of the International Association of Privacy Professionals' Government Working Group and a member of the Privacy Advisory Committee to the U.S. Department of Homeland Security.
Before starting up the Office of Privacy Protection, McNabb had over 20 years experience in public affairs and marketing, in both the public and private sectors, including five years with an international marketing company in France. Her marketing background gives her an understanding of the commercial uses of personal information that have become a significant privacy concern.
McNabb attended Occidental College and holds a master's degree in Medieval Literature from the University of California, Davis

Amber Lindsay is the Communications Coordinator for the NetSmartz Workshop. Ms. Lindsay works with educators, law enforcement, community leaders, and the media to implement NetSmartz into schools and communities across the country. Through presentations and trainings, Ms. Stanford has an extensive background in the Internet Safety Education business. From 1999 to 2004, Ms. Stanford focused her time raising awareness to Members of Congress of the need for Internet safety education in K-12 schools. Ms. Stanford catapulted a non-profit Internet safety education foundation, I-Safe America, into an $11.5M federally funded, nationally recognized entity.

Jonathon Fairtlough has been assigned to the Hight Tech Crime Unit and has prosecuted over 50 identity theft cases including the ChoicePoint Data Intrusion. He was selected as prosecutor of the year in 2006 by the Southern Chapter of the International Association of Financial Crime Investigators.

Since June 2004 Scheer has been Executive Director of the California First Amendment Coalition, a nonprofit public interest organization committed to free speech and open-government rights.
A lawyer and journalist, Scheer was editor and publisher of The Recorder, a daily legal newspaper in San Francisco, and publisher of Legal Times, a Washington, DC-based weekly on law and lobbying. Scheer practiced appellate law in Washington, DC, both in the U.S. Justice Department and in private practice. A partner in the Washington, DC firm of Onek, Klein & Farr, and general counsel to the National Security Archive, Scheer has argued appellate cases in most of the federal courts of appeal and in the U.S. Supreme Court

David Bender has extensive experience in contracting, litigation and counseling. He co-chairs the Privacy Practice Group and has been active in counseling on matters regarding privacy and data protection. He and negotiates and drafts all types of agreements relating to Internet, computer software and hardware matters. He also litigates computer related disputes and directs privacy audits and intellectual property due diligence investigations.
Susan Jayson is executive director and co-founder of Ponemon Institute, LLC. In this role, Susan is responsible for managing the Institute's operations, including research on privacy and information management issues. Susan's background includes marketing, investor relations and corporate communications for such leading organizations as KPMG Peat Marwick, Arthur Andersen and the Financial Relations Board.
Dr. Lawrence A. Ponemon is the Chairman and Founder of the Ponemon Institute, a research think tank dedicated to advancing privacy and data protection practices. Dr. Ponemon is considered a pioneer in privacy risk management and the development of the Responsible Information Management or RIM framework.

Burton Hersh has adroitly sidestepped regular employment and persevered throughout a long and frequently tumultuous career as an independent writer. Following a six-year stint as a Fulbright Scholar and military translator in Germany, he returned to New York in the sixties to more than a decade as a successful magazine article writer and afterwards became a prolific author. He has a colorful background, received many literary awards, and his many years of research gave him great insights into American society and privacy issues. Below are some of his published books.
